It was a humbling experience for the joint DSG and GMU teams to meet with and listen to Major General Muniruzzaman from Bangladesh on his country’s tragic history with terror groups. These kinds of interchanges help keep us grounded to the real impact of terrorism beyond mere data and numbers. Many of the issues that Bangladesh faces in its instances of terrorism have parallels with challenges that we face here in the United States. However, Bangladesh has many unique challenges that it must overcome.
It is shocking to think that Bangladesh could lose up to 20 % of its land mass due to climate change which would displace 10’s of millions of people. This, combined with the massive migration of displaced Rohingya’s in the state’s north from Burma, will provide a massive population that is ripe for radicalization.
